My Breast Cancer Journal
Part 9

Breast Cancer is a disease that touches everyone lives. 1 out of 8 women get diagnosed with some form of breast cancer. I was diagnosed in January 2021. Here is my story…

Happy Easter Week - Jounal entry 3/30/21

Hi everyone,

Thought I’d be in touch with an update since some of you have been inquiring. I’ve had three appointments since my last journal entry. I’m stillĀ  with one drain in tow but still feeling stronger daily. The weather was nice this weekend and I did some light gardening with Alex’s and Dad’s help. (A testament to his love for me because Alex LOATHES gardening!) It’s been so pretty these days and it’s not my usual routine to just “watch” Spring go by, so that was a true blessing!

How Many Months of Pain?

As for today’s appointment, it was great in that the first steps towards my restoration have begun! Woo Hoo! That means I’m healing and going in the right direction! It was also not so great in that I wasn’t expecting it to be a painful visit, still be in pain afterwards and to being told that it will remain that way for the next 3 months. At least they are honest. The good news is I didn’t slap any of the staff during the procedure! (I had promised them I wouldn’t, LOL, but I sure could have!) I know some of you have been through this before me and I am sorry. I have a new respect for you. Your strength and your courage to go on this journey and not whine about it is a true inspiration for me!

Nevertheless Feeling Blessed

While today has not been an afternoon of light gardening, but one of lying on the sofa, with a few teary moments there was also some laughter (which did NOT feel good, haha) with Alex and Arne. They are so wonderful to me and I’m feeling SO blessed to have them around (Thanks Covid! No really! Thank you!). They have also now started debating over who gets to drive me to MDA as they discovered a nearby tasty hot spot called The Common Bond. As Arne put it, they “post up” there while I’m at my appointments. The CB has quickly become a theme in my journey. They enjoy their off site makeshift “waiting room” and the bonus for me is they always pick me up with a tasty treat. Both their company during the trip and the CB treat is like a little reward to me for the day’s visit.

Each Tomorrow Will Be A Better Day

So, I’m confident that tomorrow I will feel better and the next day better and so on and so on. While these appointments will go on repeat for a few more weeks they WILL eventually leave me alone to heal for my 2nd surgery. Woo Hoo!

Another big thanks for the continued love, support and prayers. I have the BEST cheerleaders ever and I so appreciate you ALL! Just remember, good things are better and bad things are more bearable when you share them with God.

Have a Happy Easter everyone! xx Susan (a few pics of Easter blessings, including me with clean hair and wearing Easter colors!)

If you are looking for a place to get a mammogram, just ask your OBGYN.

The technology these days is amazing and you will get your results almost immediately.

Please don’t delay this important act of self care. You and your loved ones deserve it!
