My Breast Cancer Journal
Part 3

Breast Cancer is a disease that touches everyone lives. 1 out of 8 women get diagnosed with some form of breast cancer. I was diagnosed in January 2021. Here is my story…

Girls Hit your hallelujah - 2/23/21

Hi everyone,

Just thought I’d share some good news, a little update, some unfortunate news and a funny story.

Let’s start with the good, scratch that, wonderful news! The wonderful news is that the extensive path report done on my lymph node biopsy came back negative for cancer cells! Girls hit your hallelujah (whoo!) Apparently, my node was aggravated from the breast biopsy and in hindsight this makes total sense. Regardless, I am pleased they are being thorough.

As for a little update, the weather has caused quite a delay in rescheduling my appointments, but I finally have appointment to meet my Reconstructive Surgeon and Radiation Oncologist on March 9. I was able to choose my Reconstructive Surgeon from the long list of surgeons at MD Anderson and he came highly recommended from a friend. Hopefully the appointment with my Surgical Oncologist will be added to the list soon!

You Just Have to Laugh at These Things...

As for the unfortunate news, while we had no issues with water or electricity at our house, my parents were not so fortunate. Their house suffered 8 freezing and bursting pipes in their attic which resulted in a collapsed ceiling and flooding in 90% of their house. They will be undergoing repairs on their home for the next 4-6 weeks so please keep them in your thoughts. They will be staying with us during the repairs and we are happy to be able to help.

So here’s the funny story…..I mean, you just have to laugh at these things… This morning, my son Arne drove me to MD Anderson for my MRI which began at 9:15. Because of Covid 19, no guests may join a patient so he dropped me and went to a local cafe to wait. After I checked in and filled out the paperwork, I dipped into the bathroom for a moment, letting the receptionist know where I was in case they called my name.

When I came out of the bathroom, the lady very kindly said “I’m so sorry Mrs. Lidback, but we have a problem.” Oh no I thought, what now? In my mind I was thinking, “Please, no more delays”. She politely said, “Well, your appointment IS at 9:15, but at 9:15 PM not AM and we are booked solid for the day”. Well, I was quite relieved that the problem wasn’t greater than a timing issue but I was also thinking, “who does MRIs at 9:15PM in the evening???” The answer is MD Anderson! What an impressive hospital to work so hard to serve so many, day and night!

So, Arne and I made the journey back home and I will be returning tonight for my MRI. Perhaps in the evening I’ll be a little more rested and relaxed for the test anyway! Do you think they serve cocktails before MRIs at night???

Until I have more to share, thank you SO much for your prayers and thoughts. The delay in meeting my doctors and devising a plan has been a little trying and now we have two additional weeks to wait. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy my usual pleasures of life, help mom and dad get back on their feet and try to keep my mind off of breast cancer.

Love you, Susan xx
